Hike Caldera de Taburiente

An adventurous hike through the National Park! Inside the about 9 km wide gigantic crater we walk downhill, starting at 1.000 m above sea level through forests of pine trees, endemic in the Canary Islands Archipelago. We reach the Taburiente River – the only stream of the Canary Islands which has water all year round.

Description

Hiking in the National Park – Caldera de Taburiente

The Caldera de Taburiente is one of the largest erosion craters in the world. It is located right in the centre of the island, made up of a circle of mountains nearly 2.500 m high. The highest peaks drop vertically up to 1.000 m into the crater.

This is the only opportunity to hike inside of our National Park. We start at the highest point of the day; 1.081 m and we gradually go down until the end of the hike. The first part is simply incredible; with amazing views all the way until we reach the centre of this impressive erosion crater. We continue down until the ravine bed, always overlooked by Idafe, “the holly rock” from our ancestor, and after a visit to the waterfall Cascada de Colores, we hike the long way out along the river bed, where water will show us the best way out.

Great hike, the fun on the booking has been translated. Again, the journey is an experience – kudos to the bus driver Through shady landscape with beautiful views we reached the Playa de Taburiente, where the lunch break (definitely enough water and food packaging) took place. Here you have the opportunity to swim in sunny weather. So far, the “descent” was a normal walk, after that it got steeper (but no problem, because the ground was not slippery). Passing Cascade de Colores and through the riverbed we arrived well at the parking lot. Before the return journey started, there was something refreshing to drink in the restaurant Balcon Taburiente, from where we could enjoy a fantastic view. Many thanks to our hiking guide Silvia, who entertained the group and also a big compliment to gettivity, who put together a great homepage.
